Chittagong Bureau :The newly -elected City Mayor AJM Nasiruddin has assumed the charges formally as Mayor of the port city from Acting Mayor Md. Hossain yesterday under Section 23 of City Corporation Act-2009. At the same time 41 general councilors, 14 reserved women councilor also take charge simultaneously. Among others, elderly Awami League leader Ishaq Miah, CCC Secretary Rashid Ahmed, Chief Executive officer of CCC Kazi Md. Shamul Alam and the personal Secretary to Mayor Manzoorul Islam were present on the occasion. CCC sources said, city Mayor turns over CCC office at 11 am and participated the Khatme Quoran, Milad and Doa Mahfil arranged at Abdus Sattar auditorium before taking charge officially. After taking chargesm city Mayor exchanged views with the media personalities . Chief Executive Officer of CCC Rashid Ahmed told this reporter that due to legal complications City mayor had to wait for 3 months to take charge officially. According to local govt (City Corporation Act-2009) Section-6, after first meeting of the elected city corporation body, the duration of new body is 5 years and hence new Mayor had to wait upto July 25 last to take charge as New Mayor.
