Detective Branch (DB) of Police on Monday arrested five people, including businessman Nasir U Mahmud, the main accused in the case on charges of rape and attempted murder of popular actress Pori Moni. They were held from Uttara in the capital, confirmed Dhaka Metropolitan Police Joint Commissioner Mohammad Harun Aur Rashid.
According to DB sources, Nasir was reportedly arrested from his home in the capital’s Uttara sector no-01 on Monday around 2pm. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police Mashiur Rahman led the operation. During the drive, foreign liquor and yaba pills were recovered from the residence of Nasir. Meanwhile, security of actress Pori Moni has been strengthened after the incident.
Police have been deployed at her Banani home, said Gulshan Zone Deputy Commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty.
After filling the case by actress Pori Moni, members of the law enforcement agencies took steps to arrest the prominent businessman Nasir. Dhaka District Superintendent of Police (SP) Maruf Hossain Sardar told the media, “Process of taking legal action in this regard is continued”.
Earlier, at a press conference on Sunday night, Pori Moni expressed concern over her safety alleging that six people, including businessman Nasir Uddin, had tried to rape and kill her.
Earlier in the day, Pori filed a case with Savar Model Police Station against six people including Nasir Uddin. Pori also mentioned the names of his friend Omi and four others unknown people in the case.
To be noted, Pori on Sunday in a status on her verified Facebook page said that she was attempted rape and murder.
However, Dhaka Boat Club has expelled accused Nasir Uddin Mahmud from its Executive Committee. The club also formed a three-member committee to investigate the allegations.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Film Artists Association has demanded a proper investigation into Pori Moni’s case.
