Narsingdi burn injury victim dies at DMCH

A woman succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday morning. She suffered severe burn injuries, as her husband allegedly set her ablaze for dowry in Narsingdi district a day before her death.
The victim has been identified as Subarna Akhter, 18, wife of Md Ilias. She was the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinee from a local college at Raipura in Narsingdi district, police said.
Quoting the doctors and the relatives of the victim,
DMCH Police Outpost In-Charge and Sub-Inspector (SI) Mozammel Haque said that Ilias was demanding dowry from Subarna and her parents constantly. He demanded Tk one lakh on Saturday. But Subarna said that she could not manage it from her parents. At one stage of altercation between them, Ilias poured kerosene on Subarna’s body and set her on fire in the afternoon.
Subarna’s father Anwar Hossain rushed her to Narsingdi Sadar Medical College and Hospital getting information. The doctors referred Subarna to the DMCH on Saturday night as her condition deteriorated. Subarna breathed her last around 7:30am on Sunday morning in the burn unit of the hospital.
Ninety percent of her body were burnt, the police official said. There was no arrest till Sunday afternoon in this connection, the SI said. They were united in marriage on November 8.
