AKS BPL: Narrow win for Victorians

Comilla Victorians posted a narrow 14-run victory over Rangpur Riders in their match of the AKS Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Twenty20 Cricket at the flood-lit Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Saturday.
Put into bat first, Comilla Victorians made a fighting total of 153 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then they restricted Rangpur Riders to 139 runs for the loss of
seven wickets in 20 overs.
Comilla Victorians faced an early debacle as they lost three wickets for 55 runs.
Then Imrul Kayes and Marlon Samuels repaired the damage contributing together 45 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Imrul Kayes was bowled out by Thisara Perera when Comilla’s score was 100 runs for the loss of four wickets.
Imrul Kayes was his team’s most successful batsman with 47 runs. His 32-ball polished innings was decorated with four fours and two sixes.
Marlon Samuels hit a fine 41. He hit four fours and a sixer in his 34-ball innings before he was caught behind by Mohammad Mithun off Thisara Perera when Comilla’s total was 139 for the loss of six wickets.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Thisara Perera of Rangpur Riders bagged a pair of wickets each at the cost of 22 and 26 runs respectively.
Besides, Rubel Hossain got one wicket conceding 45 runs.
Later, Rangpur Riders faced an early collapse as they lost four wickets for 32 runs.
Then Mohammad Mithun and Ravi Bopara built a notable partnership. They put on together 67 runs before Mithun was caught at the extra cover by Tamim Iqbal off Al-Amin Hossain when Rangpur’s score was 99 for the loss of five wickets.
Bopara remained unbeaten with 48. His run-a-ball innings was laced with five fours.
Mithun hit 31 from 26 balls with one four and one six.
After Mithun’s departure, batsmen of Rangpur Riders failed to make any notable partnership.
Mehedi Hasan and Rashid Khan of Comilla Victorians bagged a couple of wickets each for 15 and 19 runs respectively.
Al-Amin Hossain and Hasan Ali took one wicket apiece.
Mehedi Hasan was adjudged the Man of the Match.
