Nargis Akhter started her career in cinema as a heroine. Later, she also acted in roles of sister, sister-in-law and mother in many movies. Nargis believes she does not get any call for acting because her contemporary many producers and directors are not working in films and TV dramas now. However, she acted in role of a war heroine in Masud Pathik’s movie Maya: The Lost Mother. For the first time, she got the National Film Award-2019 in category of Best Actress in Supporting Role for this movie.
Nargis is very much delighted and amused to get the award for first time. Her family did not get the news at first.
On December 5, journalist Ovi Moinuddin informed the matter to veteran actress Anwara, elder sister of Nargis, through her daughter actress Mukti. Mukti first disclosed the news to her aunty. After getting the news, Nargis became astonished.
While sharing her feelings in this regard Nargis said, “In fact, my elder sister Anwara Apa had to struggle for establishing me as an actress in media. I will never pay tribute to her contribution. After getting the news, she and my niece Mukti cried pleasantly. My two children Tultuli and Badhon were also delighted in this regard. Earlier, in many movies, I gave a lot of efforts while acting but never got the National Film Award. Director Masud Pathik of this generation gave me the role of a war heroine in his movie Maya: The Lost Mother and requested me to give my level best effort to portray the role. I am grateful to Allah for the blessing. If today my brother Humayun Kabir will alive, he will surely become glad. I have already finished shooting of Pantho directed movie Sabitri.”
Among four, Anwara and Shamsunnahar – two sisters of Nargis are alive, she also said.
During childhood, she acted in commercial stage shows. Kuashar Kanna was her acted first theatre play. Later, she acted in more theatre dramas. She acted in BTV’s series Ayna. She also acted in Hiramon and Bou Kotha Kou. In 1973, changing her name as Nargis from Hosne Ara, she started acting in Khan Ataur Rahman produced movie Jhorer Pakhi. Later, she also acted in movies Abodan, Gunahgar, Champa Chameli, Bhai Aamar Bhai, Adalot, Nolok, Fakir Majnu Shah, Rong Berong, Sareng Bou, Mayar Badhon, Ramer Sumoti and many more.
