The names of Awami League (AL) presidium members, joint secretaries and treasurer were announced on the second day of the party’s 20th council session held at the Institute of Engineers in the capital city on Sunday.
Sheikh Hasina announced the names of 16 presidium members, four joint general secretaries and treasurer after being elected the party president for the eighth consecutive time.
Among the presidium members, Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader are ex-officio members as the president and general secretary respectively. Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Matia Chowdhury, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Mohammad Nasim, Kazi Zafarullah, Syed Ashraful Islam, Sahara Khatun and Engineer Mosharraf Hossain to continue their presidium membership.
Six others- Nurul Islam Nahid, Abdur Razzak, Faruk Khan, Abdul Mannan Khan, Ramesh Chandra Sen and Pijush Kanti Bhattacharya have been newly inducted in the presidium. Nuh-ul-Alam Lenin has been pruned from the AL presidium.
The four joint secretaries are Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif, Dipu Moni MP, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman. Among them, Abdur Rahman is a fresher.
Treasurer Ashiqur Rahman will continue his party post.
The party also announced names of 23 members of the 83-member central committee. Sheikh Hasina will announce the names of the rest 60 members in consultation with the general secretary and the presidium members.
Earlier, Abdur Razzak, convener of constitution sub-committee of the council, presented amendments to the party constitution which was passed by its councillors.
According to the amendments, the number of presidium members has been increased to 19, from the existing 15, while that of joint secretaries to four from the existing three.
Besides, there will be eight organising secretaries in place of seven, according to the amendment.
