Najmul XI will take on Mahmudullah XI in final of the BCB President’s Cup at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur today. The match begins at 1.30pm. State-owned television channel Bangladesh Television will telecast the match live from the arena. The final was scheduled to be held on October 23 but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) postponed the match due to inclement weather, according to the forecast of the Bangladesh Metrological Office. The BCB changed the date and fixed up the final today.
Najmul XI stormed into the final bagging six points from four matches in the round robin league. On the other hand, Mahmudullah XI moved to the final collecting four points from as many matches.
Tamim XI failed to reach the final getting two points from four matches.
Nahmul XI defeated Mahmudullah XI by four wickets in the inaugural match on October 11, thrashed Mahmudullah XI by 131 runs in their second match on October 17, beat Tamim XI by seven runs in the last match on October 21. Najmul XI tasted a 42-run defeat to Tamim XI on October 15.
On the other hand, Mahmudullah XI defeated Tamim XI by five wickets on October 13 and edged past Tamim XI by four wickets on October 19.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain of Najmul XI said, ” I feel good as my team reached the final. We enjoyed the tournament very much. I hope we shall bring a good result in the final.”
Shanto said, ” There are lot of positive signs in the round robin league. Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain, Towhid Ridoy and Irfan Sukkur shone with the willow. Taskin Ahmed and Al-Amin Hossain shone with cherry.”
He said, ” There were a healthy competition inside our team. Everybody enjoyed it. I hope we shall do good in the final.”
Mahmudullah Riyad, the captain of Mahmudullah XI said, ” Thanks to the Almighty that we reached the final. We moved into the final with the help of our luck. We are all eager to perform well in the final.”
Riyad praised the performance of his teammate Mahmudul Hasan.
