Nahid for skill-based edn to create employment opportunities

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday laid emphasis on skill based education to create employment opportunities through developing human resources.
“We are now formulating the education curriculum in line with the demand of job market to remove unemployment problems in the country,” he told a seminar on ‘Skills change lives and increase social dignity’ in the conference room of National Skills Development Council (NSDC) here. The seminar was organized by NSDC on the occasion of the World Youth Skills Day-2018 to create awareness among young generation.
Secretary of Technical and Madrasah Education Division Md Alamgir and
senior officials of different organizations concerned, among others,
addressed the seminar with Chief Executive Officer of NSDC ABM Khorshed Alamin the chair.Nahid said effective plans should be taken to promote technical education to achieve the targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. “We have attached top priority to expansion of technical and vocational education to ensure better access of students to job markets,” he added. Nahid said the government has set a target of 30 percent enrolment in technical education by 2030 aiming to transform Bangladesh into an economically developed country.
“In 2009, there was only one percent student enrolment in the technical education while the current enrolment is 14 percent,” he added. “To maximize the benefit of using ICT in a classroom, we need a bunch of trained, motivated and technology-friendly teachers who will make the whole process effective and successful,” the minister added. “The government has taken various ICT programmes to ensure quality of education. In a technology-based globalised world, quality education is crucial for any country. The government has realised the fact and executed its plans accordingly,” Nahid added.
The World Youth Skills Day-2018 was observed today across the country as elsewhere in the world aiming to promote skill based education for developing human resources through utilizing potentiality of young population. An elaborate programme has been taken to highlight the significance of the Day.
Expressing solidarity with United Nations (UN), the World Skill International has fixed the theme of the day as “Skills Change Lives”. World Skills International is very proud to be part of a global recognition and promotion of World Youth Skills Day. The United Nations, at its General Assembly in November 2014, declared July 15 as World Youth Skills Day.
