Bangladesh Protidin editor Naem Nizam on Tuesday resigned from the post of Secretary General of the Editors’ Council.
In his resignation letter, he said, ‘I have decided to resign from the post of secretary general of the Sampadak Parishad as I do not agree with the moral attitude of the president of the Sampadak Parishad in the prevailing circumstances.’
About the resignation, Editors’ Council president Mahfuz Anam, in a written statement on Wednesday, said, ‘I am shocked and saddened by the news of Naem Nizam’s resignation from the position of secretary general of Sampadak Parishad about which he informed me yesterday night over the phone from New York but I am yet to receive his resignation letter.’
Meanwhile, Mahfuz Anam said, ‘I will consult with the members of the parishad to determine our response. However, it should be mentioned that the policy of the parishad has always been to operate on the basis of consensus and there has not been a single occasion when it was otherwise.’
‘I would like to emphasise here that I had a wonderful working relationship with him and we never had any differences of opinion in running the organisation,’ Mahfuz Anam said while commenting on the resignation.
