Myanmar’s human trafficker killed in gunfight

Staff Reporter :An alleged human trafficker of Myanmar was killed in a gunfight between two gangs of smugglers at Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar in the early hours of Monday.Police said the bullet riddled body of Aman Ullah Anu, 30, was found at Ali Khali Laban field near a Rohingya refugee camp. Police also recovered two firearms, bullets and two notebooks that ‘contained trafficking information’ from the spot. “We suspect that the Myanmar national might have been killed by other members of his trafficking ring following a row over sharing money. The gun bat occurred on Sunday night. We recovered the body following morning,” said Officer-in Charge of Teknaf Police Station Ataur Rahman Khandker said. The OC said, “Anu originally a citizen of Myanmar’s Maungdaw. He lived in Nayaparha Rohingya camp at Cox’s Bazar. Anu is a member of the gang that smuggles people to Thailand and Malaysia. “He is a listed criminal of Home Ministry. He is also accused in eight cases filed at Teknaf Police Station for human trafficking. We’ve got information that two rival factions of smugglers, in a row over money, exchanged fire at dawn,” said OC.The body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy, he said.Police said Anu and his gang was involved in human trafficking getting patronization from some local political persons.
