Bangladesh on Saturday requested Myanmar again to send back BGB Nayek Abdur Razzaq but the neighbouring country is thinking of taking legal steps against him accusing him of entering its territory illegally.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Myanmar Sufiur Rahman met Myanmar new Foreign Secretary and conveyed Bangladesh’s request to send Razzaq back home soon, said a diplomatic source.
If Myanmar goes for legal measures, the return of Razzak will be delayed, the source added.
Bangladesh also a lodged strong protest with Myanmar for publishing Razzaq’s photos with handcuffed.
Bangladesh Foreign Ministry on Thursday summoned Myanmar Ambassador in Dhaka Myo Myint Than and asked him to convey his government to immediately return BGB Nayek Abdur Razzak, abducted on Wednesday.
Additional Foreign Secretary Mizanur Rahman handed over a note verbal to Ambassador Myo Myint Than asking him to convey his government to send back BGB Nayek immediately.
“The envoy accordingly conveyed it to his foreign office,” the source said. Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) opened fire on a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) patrol boat in the Naf River which was later described by Bangladesh as ‘misunderstanding’.
