Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique on Thursday expressed profound shock at the death of noted essayist and former librarian of the university Dr Fazlul Alam.
In a condolence message, VC said Dr Alam was a noted writer, cultural expert and free thinker.
“Dr Fazlul Alam’s writings have been encouraging the progressive spirit of Bangladesh. He played an important role to modernize the library at Dhaka University. His death is an irreparable loss to the country’s literature and cultural arena,” Prof Arefin said.
Arefin prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Dr Alam died at a private hospital on Wednesday. He was 75.
