Myanmar-EU trade reaches $1.2b in 1st half of FY 2017-18

Trade between Myanmar and European Unions member countries reached 1.2 billion U.S. dollars in the first half of fiscal year 2017-2018, official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Wednesday.
In accordance with the statistics of the Ministry of Commerce, Myanmars export to EU member countries amounted to 789 million U.S. dollars while its import shared with 412 million U.S. dollars.
Germany topped the list among EU member countries with 297 million U.S. dollars, followed by Britain with 178 million U.S. dollars and France with 151 million U.S. dollars.
The countrys trade with EU countries was 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in the last FY 2016-2017.
The country mainly exports rice, pulses, tea leaf, coffee, apparel from garment sector on Cut-Make-Pack basis and fisheries.
Cosmetic, food and beverages and consumer goods are usually imported into the country.
About 5.6 billion U.S. dollars of investments from EU member countries have flown into the countrys petroleum and natural gas enterprises, manufacturing, transportation, hotels and tourism, livestock sectors from 2013 to September, 2017.
