Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim blamed his batsmen for his team’s humiliating defeat against Sri Lanka in the first Test.
He was talking to reporters at a post match press conference on Thursday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium here.
“It was frustrating to be out like this way in this wicket…we should be more alert about our job and try to cover up the lacking so that we can go to the second Test with a better preparation,” said the Bangladesh captain.
Mushfiqur said it was a good wicket to bat on but they didn’t play well from day one and that put them on the back foot. “It’s very difficult to come back from that, I thought the pitch was good to bat on, but the boys just didn’t show the fight in the middle,” he added.
“Hopefully we can come back strongly in the second Test. It has been great for us in the last two and a half years, we just didn’t deliver well in this Test. We need to work on our batting and hopefully we can come back strong in Chittagong,” he said.
The diminutive wicket keeper said “It’s important now that someone from the top plays a big innings, as it will give us a lot of chance in the middle. We hope that the boys at the top will come strong, and as a batting unit we need to hold our hands up.”
Replying to a question, the Bangladesh skipper said as their main strength is batting so they will try to click as early as possible in the second Test.
The right-handed batsman however admitted that it will not be so easy to come back from this stage in the second Test, but at the same time he said they have the ability to score 600 plus runs against Sri Lanka in any wicket.
The Bangladesh skipper said they have been playing good consistence cricket in the last one and half years with this team so it is possible to do better in the second Test.
