Stabbed in throat : Culprits manage to flee leaving behind motorcycle

Staff Reporter :A preacher of Christian Baptist Mission managed to escape death when unidentified miscreants tried to slaughter him in his school-para rented residence at Bimanbandar Sarak under Ishwardi upazila in Pabna district on Monday.The victim was identified as Luk Sarkar, 53, priest of ‘Faith Bible Church’ in the upazila and son of Bani Kanta Sarkar of Sathia. He was also a homeo physician in profession.  Quoting victim’s wife Padma Sarkar, police said three youths came to their house riding a motorcycle [Dhaka Metro-Ta-11-9054] at about 9:00am to listen to sermons of Bible from her husband.They all sat in their drawing room. When she [Padma Sarkar] went to adjacent room, the assailants quickly closed the door of drawing room and stabbed her husband [preacher] in the throat.Hearing his screams from another room, Padma said, she rushed there and found her husband lying in a pool of blood. The youths fled the house taking the chance. “I don’t know name or address of the youths,” she said.She said: “My husband [Luk Sarkaar] sustained injures in his throat as the miscreants tried to slaughter him with a sharp weapons.”Local people rushed to the spot hearing the scream of Padma Sarkar. At one stage, they got hold one of the assailants, but his accomplices freed him showing weapons to agitating people. The assailants fled away leaving the motorcycle abandoned. The victim at first was taken to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex from where he was shifted to Pabna General Hospital when his condition deteriorated.Officer-in-Charge of Ishwardi Police Station Biman Kumar Das said that police visited the spot and seized the abandoned motorcycle from the spot. A case was filed in this connection, the OC said.Referring to on-duty physicians, house owner Monirul Islam said: “The physicians gave some stitches in the throat of Luk Sarkar. And, he is now out of danger. When contacted, Superintendent of Police of Pabna district Md Alamgir Kabir told The New Nation last night: “We are trying to identify the criminals. The injured preacher has been living in Monirul Islam’s house along with his family for the last five years. The police are now trying to identify the culprits and unearth the reason behind the attack.”
