A terrorist, accused in 17 cases including of murder and drugs trading, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with law enforcers in the city’s Khilgaon area on Saturday midnight.
Two members of police also injured in the gunfight.
The accused deceased was identified as Sohel Hawlader alias Jhono, 30, son of one Suruj Hawlader from Bangha upazila of Faridpur district.
Moshiur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Khilgaon Police Station, confirmed the matter to the media and said that airport police attested Sohel from the domestic terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) around 8:30pm on Saturday night after he reached Dhaka from Cox’s Bazar.
Later, he was taken to Khilgaon Police Station on the same night.
During initial interrogation, he said that drugs and firearms had been kept at a spot in Nagdarpar area under the police station, the OC said.
Acting on his information, a police team, led by the OC and Assistant Commissioner of Khilgaon Zone Zulfikar Ali, along with Sohel went to the spot on Saturday midnight.
After getting information, Sohel’s associates opened fire on the law enforcers when they reached the spot around 2:45am that led to a gunfight.
Sohel received bullet wounds in the gunfight.
Later, he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead, OC also added.
