Prof. Munsur -Ul- Karim, eminent artist and teacher of Fine Arts of Chittagong University was awarded Sultan Padak-2014 on Tuesday march 4 at the 8th day long Sultan Mela. Biren Sikdar MP, State Minister for Youth and Sports Ministry handed over the medal as the chief guest of the day. It was addressed, among others, by Zila Parishad administrator Subas Chandra Bose, Artist Professor Munsur Ul Karim, Professor Anwar Hossain, Principal, Government Victorian College and Ashikur Rahman Miku, Member Secretary, S M Sultan Foundation.
The eight day long programme includes children’s art competition, art exhibition, lathikhela , bull fighting , wrestling , kabaddi , horse carrage race , cock-fighting , volleyball , dariabandha, bauci, ekka-dokka, drama show, Baul gan, jari gan , kabi gan, discussion meeting, cultural function at every night organized by different cultural organizations. Artists of 45 Local cultural organizations , Lalon Academy of Kushtia and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy were staged cultural events. Mobile phone company ‘Grameen Phone’ and cultural affairs ministry sponsored the Sultan Mela.
