UNB, Munshiganj :
Abul Kalam Ajad, an elderly, has to carry his wife Mamtaj, a cancer patient, in his arms to get medical help time to time, creating an unbearable sight as the only entrance to their home is barely accessible due to land grabbing of one local influential.
Some 10-12 families consisting of over 60 members of Brahmnpaiksa village of Kolapara Upazila in Munshiganj are encountering similar intense suffering since local dominant Tapan Khan, son of Dr Wach Khan built a wall few months back on government land squeezing the eight feet wide road down to two feet which can hardly let out an able bodied person.
According to the members of the wronged family, it becomes quite a hassle if anyone is in need of emergency medical attention or pregnant as they have to take a route far from the road. The two-foot entrance becomes completely inaccessible in rainy season making boats the only means of transport.
One family member, Mahin said two months ago Arjuda Begum, wife of Hasan Dhali and Mabia, wife of Mohammad Bepari passed away. Their corpses could not be taken out due to the squeezed space hence their family members had to face troubles and ultimately after subsequent plea, Tapan let them carry the bodies through his homestead.
Nurjahan Begum, wife of late Osman Bepari, is deprived of medical assistance because of the blockade. If anyone tries to get to the main road through Tapan’s house they have to face insults and in some cases, beatings too.
Upon contacting several times, Tapan Khan refrained from answering phone calls while locals and victim family members seek authority to put an end to their misery by removing the wall from government property.
