ULAB Model United Nations Conference 2018 ended on Friday with a grand closing ceremony at their campus located in Dhanmondi in the capital. It was the first MUN initiative in the history of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).
This small footstep into the MUN culture was highly praised by the honorable guests. The chief guest for the closing ceremony was State Minister of Power, Energy and Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu whereas the special guest was Md. Moniruzzaman, Office-in-Charge of UNICPRB.
The other honorary guests were, Dr Kazi Anis Ahmed, Vice President, Board of Trustees, ULAB; Prof Dr Milan Kumar Bhattacharjee, Treasurer, ULAB; Prof Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to the ULAB Board of Trustees; Prof Shamsad Mortuza, Head of the Department of Humanities and Mamun Mia, President, UNYSAB were also present.
The chief guest and the last speaker of the event, Nasrul Hamid Bipu said, “To progress with sustainable development, we should ensure the SDG Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy of UNDP first in the context of Bangladesh”. He successfully engaged the delegates to share their thoughts about the necessity of global private-public partnership to establish variable energy resources in Bangladesh.
Special guest, Md. Moniruzzaman gave the opening speech where he mentioned that Bangladesh is playing a significant role along with other eleven countries in promoting United Nations Peace Keeping Conduct by avoiding missions against other countries.
Vice President of ULAB Board of Trustees said in his opening speech “ULAB believes in the gesture of audacity of hope. Model United Nations simulation is simply practicing the ancient Chinese and Egyptian education philosophy which focus on skill development, leadership challenges, manifestation of unity and togetherness and the power of youth”.
The theme for the session was “Public and Private Partnership for Sustainable Development”. The conference was attended by around 200 delegates of different member states of United Nations under 5 committees. The committees are: United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Special Committee for Bangladesh Affairs (SCBA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). The committees came up with 5 draft resolutions and each commettee prepared a draft resolution paper on the passed agenda of the plenary sessions.
The closing ceremony was brought to an end by the Secretary General of ULAB MUN Conference 2018, Kazi Raihanul Bari Rifat after a prestigious award giving ceremony where the best delegates and the executive board committee was acknowledged for their effort.
