Multimedia classrooms, computer labs at all edn instts planned

The government is going to set up multimedia and digital classrooms and computer labs in all the educational institutions across the country. The government has also directed the ministry to take initiatives to implement the digital programme.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said this at an inauguration ceremony of ‘National High School Programming Competition-2016’ in the Teacher-Student Centre of Dhaka University (DU) on Friday.

 Institute of Information Technology Dr Kazi Muhaimin-as-Saqib and General Secretary of Bangladesh Open Source Network Munir Hasan delivered lecturers at the function, among others.
The junior minister said that the government aims at making the future generation tech-savvy.
“There are specialised computer labs in 27 universities of the country. We are setting up Sheikh Russel Computer-cum-Language Labs in 2,000 schools and colleges.
“Plans have been undertaken to establish multimedia and digital classrooms and computer labs at all the 170,000 educational institutions of Bangladesh as soon as possible.
“The sole aim of this is that we want to transform Bangladesh from a labour-reliant economy to a digital one,” he said.
The State Minister also stressed the need for familiarising children with computer programming and coding from an early age.
“Europe and America will need two million programmers in the next 20 years. Our country also will need a few hundred thousand programmers in the next five years.
“We have set a target to take export earnings from the ICT sector to a few billion dollars by 2021. We will create employment opportunities for a million youths in the sector,” he added.
DU Vice-Chancellor Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique said, “Students should advance their mindsets at par with technological advancement. They have to transform themselves into proper human beings.” The competition, powered by the telecom operator Robi, will take place in 16 regions across the country until April 3. Regional winners will sit for the final round in Dhaka on April 9.
