On the occasion of historic Mujibnagar Day, rally and discussion meetings were organised at Kapasia of Gazipur district on Wednesday .
 The rallies carrying banners in the Kapasia Government Pilot High School students took part in the main road.
The newly- elected women vice chairman of the Upazila Parishad, Rawshan Ara Sarkar, spoke as the chief guest at the discussion meeting titled ‘Historical Mojibnagar Day and the Independence of Bangladesh’ held in the upazila parishad Conference Room, under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nilima Raihana. Upazila primary education officer Mahbubur Rahman spoke in the chair of Upazila Academic Supervisor Parvez Ahmed. Presented ICT officer Shahidul Islam, Rural Development Officer Golam Rasul, president of Sadar union Krishak League Md. Shakil Hasan, Assistant teacher of Kapasia Government Pilot High School Nurul Islam Farid. Most of the government officials and officers of various departments of the Upazila Parishad were not present in the program.
BSS from Rajshahi says: Vice-chancellor of the National University (NU) Prof Harun-or-Rashid has said Mujibnagar government was a great leap towards achieving the independence of Bangladesh.
“Mujibnagar government got a legal stand for demanding all sorts of support and assistance of the world community to carry on armed struggle against the Pakistani junta who denied our right to self-determination by refusing handing over power to the elected representatives of the people,” he said.
Prof Rashid was addressing a discussion on the Mujibnagar Day organised by Rajshahi University (RU) authority at its Senate Building on Wednesday.
Mujibnagar Day is observed on April 17 every year marking constituent of the first government of independent Bangladesh on this day in 1971 at Baidyanathtala mango grove in Meherpur of the then Kushtia district later renamed as Mujibnagar.
RU Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan, Pro-vice-chancellors Prof Ananda Kumar Saha and Prof Chowdhury Muhammad Jakaria also spoke on the occasion with Prof Mujibur Rahman, Convener of RU Progressive Teachers Society in the chair.
Formation of the government with Syed Nazrul Islam as acting president in the absence of Bangabandhu along with Tajuddin Ahmed as Prime Minister was a legal platform to fight for independence.
NU VC recalled the events of the day when the exiled leaders took the most momentous decision of forming a legal government to draw global attention to to wage the War of Liberation.

On April 17 in 1971, Bangladesh government-in-exile took oath at Baidyanathtala mango grove in Meherpur, in the then Kushtia district.
Different political parties including Bangladesh Awami League, district administration and various educational institutions including Rajshahi University (RU) arranged various programmes including rally and discussion meeting highlighting significance of the day.
Local unit of Bangladesh Awami League and associate organizations observed the day in a befitting manner. The party leaders and workers led by Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton garlanded the portraits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders at in front of the party office.
They also placed wreaths on the grave of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman, one of the four national leaders and cabinet ministers of the Mujibnagar Government, at the Kadirgonj family graveyard. They also offered fateha and doa seeking blessings of the almighty Allah for the departed soul.
Marking the day, a post-rally discussion was held at conference hall of Deputy Commissioner largely attended by cross-section people including freedom fighters, government and non-government officials, members of the civil society, professional leaders and cultural personalities.
The speakers at the meeting paid glowing tributes to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four other national leaders who contributed immensely to the liberation war of Bangladesh.
In the meeting, they mentioned that the formation of the government with Syed Nazrul Islam as acting president in the absence of Bangabandhu along with Tajuddin Ahmed as Prime Minister at Baiddyanathtala, later renamed Mujibnagar, was a great leap forward towards achieving the independence.

Muhammad Shahidullah, Additional Deputy Commissioners Ruhul Amin and Alamgir Kabir, Deputy Director of Department of Family Planning Dr Nasim Akhter and Deputy Director of Department of Social Services Rashedul Kabir spoke on the occasion.
The discussants recalled the events of the day when the exiled leaders took the most momentous decision of forming a legal government to draw global attention to the ongoing War of Liberation.
The discussion was followed by a film show at Shilpakala Academy and cultural function at Shishu Academy on the role of Mujibnagar Government towards intensifying the War of Liberation.
Marking the day, RU administration took out a rally in the campus and held a meeting at its mini conference hall with Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan in the chair. Pro-vice-chancellors Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha and Prof Muhammad Jakaria, Registrar Prof Abdul Bari and Proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman addressed the meeting.

BSS from Rangpur reports: Formation of the provisional government of Bangladesh in exile at Baiddonathtola in Meherpur on April 17, 1971, immediately drew global attention accelerating the War of Liberation towards the victory.
The observation came on Wednesday at the main discussion organised by district administration on ‘Historic Mujibnagar Day and Independence of Bangladesh’ at the Town Hall here to celebrate the historic Mujibnagar Day- 2019.
Marking the day the district and city units of Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies chalked out programmes which include – hoisting of national flag, placing wreaths at the portraits of Bangabandhu and four national leaders.
Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari addressed the main discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir in the chair.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Zila Parishad Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom, Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed and Additional Police Super Maruf Hassan addressed as special guests.
Recalling the importance of the historic day, the speakers said the War of Liberation got a defined width in the international arena on this day in 1971 with taking of oath by the provisional government in exile at Baiddonathtola.
“The national flag was hoisted on that day there after renaming Baiddonathtola as Mujibnagar as a mark of tribute to Bangabandhu who was declared as the President of the government- in-exile,” said Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud.
Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed said thousands of heroic freedom fighters, AL leaders, local and foreign journalists along with independence-seeker Bangalees were present on the occasion to witness the historic moment.
“Syed Nazrul Islam took oath as the acting President in the absence of Bangabandhu, Tazuddin Ahmad as the first Prime Minister, while Khandaker Mostaq Ahmed, Captain M Mansur Ali and AHM Quamaruzzaman as the cabinet ministers,” Mamtaz added.
The chief guest stressed on informing the true history to young generations to inspire them with patriotic zeal in building a ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“We must work now with utmost sincerity to properly implement massive development works undertaken by the present government to build a middle-income nation by 2021 and a developed country by 2041 to realise the dream of Bangabandhu,” he added.
Later, a colourful cultural function with participation of artists of District Shilpokola Academy and Shishu Academy and other cultural organisations was arranged at the same venue.
