The historic Mujibnagar Day was observed in Meherpur on Friday with a pledge to let the new generation know the history of the Independence War.
On the occasion, Meherpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ataul Gani started the day’s activities by hoisting national flag atop the Mujibnagar Memorial Museum in the morning.
On behalf of the Public Administration Ministry, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain and Meherpur district administration, Ataul Gani later placed a wreath at the Mujibnagar Memorial.
Meherpur-2 MP Shahiduzzaman Khokon, Meherpur district police, zila freedom fighters’ unit, Meherpur zila Awami League and other socio-political organisations also placed wreaths at the memorial.
They also paid homage to the four national leaders there.
This year, the historic Mujibnagar Day was observed in a subsided way in fear of coronavirus pandemic.
The day was observed remembering the oath taking of the Bangladesh government-in-exile during the Independence War in 1971 at Baidyanathtala of Meherpur on April 17, 1971.
The then government formally announced the proclamation of the independence in the programme.
