Hearing on the appeal of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed against the death sentence awarded to him by the International Crimes Tribunal for war crimes will begin on Wednesday.
The case has been listed on the business agenda of the four-member bench, headed by new Chief Justice SK Sinha for Wednesday.
An Appellate Division bench, led by outgoing Chief Justice
Md Muzammel Hossain, had on Dec 3 fixed the hearing date.
The ICT-2 on July 17 sentenced the Jamaat secretary general to death after finding him guilty of five of the seven war crime charges levelled against him.
The former Al-Badr commander moved the Appellate Division on Aug 11, 2013, challenging the verdict that condemned him to be ‘hanged by the neck’ for unleashing his ruthless militia on unarmed intellectuals and for mass murders he had planned and executed during the 1971 Liberation War.
The other members of the Appellate Division bench are Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, Hasan Fayez Siddique and AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury. The same bench upheld the capital punishment of another Jamaat leader, Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, for war crimes.
