Muhuri river protection embankment in Parashuram upazila of Feni is under threat of erosion.
The erosion of embankment in several places also made threat to Durgapur, Ratanpur, Jaypur, Rampur and Chitholia villages to be vanished.
Durgapur villagers said that the embankment was destroyed near Babul Hossain and Guramia’s house in the village last year.
It caused huge damage to crops, cattle, fishes and other properties.
Sources said erosion of the embankment devours, several hundred houses of Durgapur and Chitholia union and flood water affected hundreds of hectares of cropland and fishing ponds, submerged and damaged every year.
Villagers repair the damaged embankment by dumping sand bags on their own initiative every year during rainy season.
The villagers are conducting vigil every night to protect the embankment.
But they think their efforts are not sufficient to protect the embankment as huge hilly water come from the upper stream (India) in the rainy season being threat to damage the embankment.
They ask the government to take effective measures to protect the embankment in the interest of the villages and thousands of crop lands.
