BSS, Dhaka :

Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu said children need to be trained in the martial arts to combat sexual harassment.
“A battle is on to protect the girl child. One needs to build up resistance for that. Girl children need to be trained in self-defense along with their academic pursuits, “he told a roundtable meeting on Saturday organized by the Bengali Daily Jugantor and Nari Udyog Kendro, a NGO.
Others who spoke at the meeting included the acting editor of Daily Jugantor Saiful Islam, Nari Udyog Kendro’s executive director Mashuda Khatun Shefali and Jugantor deputy editor Rafiqul Islam Ratan.
Inu said that the government should make karate, kung-fu mandatory in schools, because the knowledge of such arts makes one self-assured and confident.
The Minster said girls receiving such training would be able to fight back eve teasers instead of fleeing from them.
He also appealed to law enforcers and civil society to come forward to combat the menace.
Girls from Kishoreganj where Nari Udyog Kendro has a program described their personal experiences in combating sexual harassment.
