Muhith to join UNDP’s 50 years celebration

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will leave Dhaka on Monday to attend the 50 years celebration of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
To mark the occasion, ministers from across the world will meet in New York; USA on Wednesday (February 24) at the UNDP’s 50th anniversary ministerial meeting general assembly sessions to chart a course for the future of global development, said an UNDP press release.
It said the ministers would be involved in high-level debates on how to translate ambitious global commitments – from financing development, eradicating poverty, reducing inequality, addressing climate change and building peace – into concrete action and results.
They will also share their visions on making the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) a reality, building a more prosperous, fair, and inclusive world for all.
UNDP Administrator Helen Clark, President of the UN General Assembly Mogens Lykketoft and the ministers for foreign, finance and others involved in development issues from across the world will participate in the gala event.
At the programme, Muhith will share Bangladesh’s experience on sustainable development and will participate in the open and panel discussions on issues including financing SDGs and UNDP towards 2030, according to a finance ministry document.
The finance minister will also attend at the reception, hosted by UNDP Administrator Helen Clack, a former prime minister of New Zealand. Muhith will return home on March 1, Tuesday.
