BSS, Dhaka :
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith Saturday stressed the need for eradicating poverty to check dropout rate of students at primary level for ensuring education for all.
Many children of poor family are forced to leave schools before completing primary level because of poverty, he told a function on the occasion of 15 years founding anniversary of Volunteers Association for Bangladesh (VAB) at the LGED auditorium here.
Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Atiur Rahman, member of advisory council of VAB Dr Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, President AT Rafikur Rahman, educationists and representative of different government and non-government organizations, among others, addressed the function.
Muhith said both technical and vocational education should be expanded in the country to create competent people aiming to build an economically advanced country.
He urged the private sector to supplement the government’s efforts to ensure access of all children to education as it is important to eliminate poverty from the country.
Dr Atiur said, “The government could not improve quality of education alone because of resource constraint. So private sector should come forward to play their due role as part of corporate social responsibility.” “We should focus on providing modern education with ICT knowledge to make our children skilled workforce,” he added.
Dr Jamilur observed the number of students of science group has significantly decreased in the recent years, which is indicating bleak prospect of overall development. “We should encourage our students to receive science education by providing them all necessary supports for pace of development,” he added.
