Muggers snatch Tk 1.24cr in city

Staff Reporter :Muggers snatched at least Tk 1.24 crore from different professional bodies by shooting and stabbing them from the city’s Mirpur and Khilgaon areas on Sunday. At least three persons were critically injured during the incidents. The injured persons had been sent to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) instantly, police said.  Witnesses said that a gang of muggers snatched Tk 90 lakh from a bKash agent who was going by a car. The miscreants shot at its driver near the Proshika Bhaban at Rupnagar around 10:30am and snatched the money.The driver of the car was taken to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR). Then he was shifted to the DMCH in a critical condition, said the Rupnagar Police Station’s Inspector (Investigation) Matlubur Rahman.Meanwhile, muggers snatched Tk 80,000 thousand by stabbing a poor rickshaw puller from Mirpur Section-1 area around 5:00am, DMCH Police Outpost In-Charge and Sub-Inspector Mozammel Haque.The victim has been identified as Abdul Aziz, 32, a rickshaw puller, from Bagerhat district. He was sent to the DMCH in a critical condition, he said.Another gang of muggers snatched Tk 14 lakh from Airtel mobile company near Shapno Super Shop in Mirpur Section-1 around 2:15pm, said Mozammel Haque. In Khilgaon, muggers shot a businessman and snatched around Tk 19 lakh from him at Khilgaon around 10:30am. The victim has been identified as Abdus Salam. A gang numbering three to four muggers intercepted Abdus Salam when he was going to a Dhaka Bank branch at Goran Bazar by a rickshaw to deposit the money, Sub-Inspector Kamruzzaman and Operation Officer of Khilgaon Police Station said. As Salam offered resistance, they (criminals) shot at him in his left leg and fled the scene with the cash, the police officer said. Salam had been sent to the DMCH, the police official said.
