Muggers shot a fruit trader and snatched away Tk 16 lakh from him at Badamtoli in the city on Thursday.
The victim was identified as Badal Munshi, 32, a businessman at Badmatali wholesale fruits market.
The muggers attacked him when he along with two other employees was heading to a bank at Islampur to deposit the money.
At first, he was taken to the Mitford Hospital. Later, he was shifted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
“The incident happened at old Dhaka’s Nababbarhi Pukurpar. Munshi, sustained gunshot wounds in his right leg,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police [Kotwali zone] Ahaduzzaman Mia.
“A gang of six muggers attacked them when they reached Nababbarhi area. They shot at Badal Munshi’s leg and snatched the bag containing the cash,” said the AC.
He added that many businessmen of old Dhaka frequently travel with a good amount of cash and they do not always inform the police.
Meanwhile, the police failed to recover the looted money and nab anyone till the time of filing of this report at 10:00pm yesterday.
The family members of victim filed a case with the concerned police station in this regard.
