Muggers looted Tk 25 lakh from a jewellery shop employee after shooting him in old part of the city on Monday.
The victim was identified as Partha Kumar, 31, an employee of ‘Swadh Jewelers’ situated at Tantibazar. Witnesses said a group of hoodlums intercepted Partha at Islampur around 4:30pm while he was going to his workplace after withdrawing Tk 25 lakh from the local branch of Al-Arafah Islami Bank.
The attackers opened fire on the jewellery shop employee and took away a bag containing Tk 25 lakh from him, deputy commissioner (Lalbagh) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mafiz Uddin Ahmed told UNB.
With bullet injuries to one of the legs, Partha was first taken to Mitford Hospital from where he was shifted to the National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), popularly known as Pangu Hospital.
