Staff Reporter :Police gunned down an alleged mugger in the city’s Tikatuli area on Sunday afternoon.The victim was identified as Md Akas Ahmed alias Ferdous, 28, a resident of Hatkhola area under Wari Police Station. Police chased Ferdous when he along with his two accomplices snatched away cash and other valuables beating a businessman at Hatkhola Crossing at about 4:00pm. Being chased by police, Ferdous tried to flee away through the narrow by-lane on the south side of Avisar cinema hall.The miscreants at that time blasted several cocktails targeting the police to make their escape route. Police also retaliated and started firing. Ferdous received fatal injuries during the shootout. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where the doctors declared him dead at 5:00pm.Inspector of Wari Police Station Subhas Kumar Paul said, police recovered cash of Tk 28,000 searching the body of Ferdous.”We have also collected the names of his [Ferdous] two accomplices. They are Mizan and Babu,” he added. The body of victim was sent to DMCH morgue for autopsy.
