A suspected mugger was killed in a fight between his cohorts and police in Padri Mission Road area of the
district town early Sunday.
The deceased could not be identified immediately. A group of muggers stabbed a local businessman when he was returning home from his lathe machine workshop around 3.00am, leaving him injured, said Abu Mohammad Fazlul Karim, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station.
The bandits also snatched a mobile phone set and Tk2,500 from his possession.
When, on information, a team of police was coming to the scene, the muggers swopped on them on a rickshaw taking them for general passengers and the law enforcers also hit back by opening fire.
One of the muggers received bullet wounds and he was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The injured businessman was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
