Blast case: Mufti Izhar, his son indicted

UNB, Chittagong :A court here on Wednesday indicted nayeb-e-ameer of Hefajat-e-Islam Mufti Izharul Islam and his son Harun Izhar in a case filed under the Acid Control Act in connection with a blast at a madrasah in 2013.Passing the order, Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions’ Judge SM Mujibur Rahman also fixed July 15 for the trial to begin formally with the deposition of witnesses, said Mufti’s lawyer Advocate Abdus Sattar.Mufti Izhar remained fugitive since the incident while his son Harun is in jail.Three people, including two students, were killed and several others injured in an explosion in a room of a four-storey hostel of Jamiatul Ulum Islami Madrasah at Lalkhan Bazar on October 7, 2013.Police later recovered huge explosive-making materials, 18 bottles of acid and four unexploded grenades from the surrounding areas of the madrasah. The explosion was believed to have taken place while making bombs.Three cases – one under the Explosive Substances Act, one under the Acid Control Act and the other for killing – were filed with Khulshi Police Station.
