President of International Cricket Council (ICC) AHM Mostafa Kamal has resigned from his post protesting the strong-arm behavior of the ICC bigwigs barring him from performing the handing over of World Cup Cricket trophy to winner Australian team at Melbourne stadium on March 29. Mr Kamal said he has resigned protesting the violation of ICC Constitution by a vested interest quarter. We believe that in the facts and circumstances, however one looks at them. Mr Kamal, who is also the Minister for Planning of the Government of Bangladesh, has taken the right decision making his case direct to cricket lovers all over the world. We strongly feel that as President of ICC he deserved due consideration of his honour and dignity. He was openly humiliated at the trophy giving ceremony. As details are not known yet, the ICC should have intimated him the position Council Members of ICC had taken because of his outright condemnation of the umpires. Mr Kamal will appreciate in a calm situation that as the President of ICC he should not have spoken like a Bangladeshi minister judging the complaints against the umpires without waiting as President of ICC for the views of the International Cricket Council. As Kamal disclosed that he was called to a hurriedly fixed informal meeting of some ICC board members in the evening before the closing day of the game and asked to seek an apology for comments against flawed umpiring. They were not ready to listen to anything on controversial umpiring. He refused to obey. We are sorry for not being able to agree that Mr Kamal’s conduct and his observations later at the press conference were well considered taking into consideration of his high position in the ICC. He was hurt and humiliated no doubt. But he should have also kept in mind his indiscrete remarks about condemning the umpires, though, according to us, they rightly deserve condemnation. The case should have been argued before the Council. Besides, how can he justify attacking Mr. Srinivasan, the Chairman of ICC as having an “ugly” face. Sorry, Mr Kamal has created complications for our cricket team.
