MP`s son Rony chargesheeted

Court Correspondent :The Detective Branch (DB) of Police on Tuesday at about 12.30 noon submitted the charge-sheet against Awami League MP Pinu Khan’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony in a case filed for double murder to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka. DB Sub-Inspector Dipak Kumar Das and also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case submitted the charge sheet to the court while Magistrate Aminul Haque signed the document and fixed August 13 to put up the charge sheet. The probe was completed only within three months.Rony, 42, was made the only accused in the charge-sheet Under Section 303 of the Penal Code. Thirtyseven persons were made witnesses in charge-sheet. Rony’s three friends Md Kamal alias Tiger Kamal, businessman Kamal Mahmud and Jahangir Hossain, and his driver of Prado Jeep Imran Fakir have been made witnesses in the charge sheet. The driver and three friends made judicial statements about the incident. According to the statements, Rony had fired four to five bullets targetting people as his car got stuck in a tailback at the area around 1.45 am on the eve of the Pohela Boishakh. While submitting the charge-sheet, the DB seized 15 Alamats (seizures) including a foreign made pistol used for the murder, magazine, 21 fresh bullets of pistol, a charger for keeping bullets and a part of a blood-strained bullet.  According to the charge sheet, on early April 13, Rony, who was in a drunken stupor, opened fire from his car indiscriminately in the city’s New Eskaton area leaving two people injured with bullets. The two men, rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim, 25, and CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver of the Daily Janakantha, Yakub Ali, 40, later died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital while undergoing treatment. Hakim succumbed to his injuries on April 15 while Yakub died on April 23. On the night of April 15, Hakim’s mother Monwara Begum lodged a case against some un-named people with Ramna Model Police Station in this connection. Imran made his statement on June 1 and the law enforcers arrested Rony from his Dhanmondi residence following the information of Imran. Rony’s licensed pistol was seized on the same day. Rony placed on remand three times and quizzed about the murder. However, he did not give any confessional statement about the incident. The Detective Branch of police was directed to carry out the probe on May 24, and Imran was detained on May 31.Meanwhile, the ballistic reports also assured that the bullets were fired from Rony’s pistol.
