MP Mukabbir accuses Sylhet UNO of irregular activities

Gonoforum Central leader, MP of Sylhet-2 constituency Mukabbir Khan, has submitted a written complaint against Osmaninagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tahmina Akhter to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), over irregularities in land acquisition to build an educational institution Osmani Nagar upazila in Sylhet.
The lawmaker appeared at the commission head office on Sunday and filed the complaint with the ACC chairman against the UNO.
However, according to the ACC regulations, a preliminary investigation has to be completed to see if the complaint will be accepted.
When contacted, the UNO refuted the allegations raised against her.
In the complaint, MP Mukabbir Khan accused UNO Tahmina Akhter of embezzling huge amounts of money in the name of land acquisition.
He said he went to the commission for justice and claimed that there was a strong syndicate of corrupt bureaucrats, businessmen and a number of politicians, before whom members of parliament were powerless.
According to the MPs complaint, the government decided to set up a technical school and college in Osmani Nagar, for which people were interested to donate land, UNO Tahmina Secretly started the process of land acquisition at a higher price in remote areas, to the benefit of a local syndicate, instead of accepting the donation.
He further alleged that crores of taka had been exchanged between the UNO and the unidentified syndicate.
