Thirty families of a building in the city’s Tolarbagh have limited their movement after a neighbour, who tested positive coronavirus, died in a private hospital in the capital on Saturday.
“The family of the 73-year-old went under self-quarantine while the rest of the residents of the building have limited their movement to save themselves and others from being infected,” said Mostaq Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mirpur Division under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
“Law enforcement agencies have kept a house of Tolarbag area under Darus Salam Police Station in Mirpur under surveillance over coronavirus outbreak. Residents of the building have sought help from police and we are assisting them. But Entry to the house and movement around it have been restricted,” the DC said.
The families have agreed that they would not go out without any valid reason. If necessary, only one member would go out with proper safety measures and return home immediately, the police official said.
He said, “The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) instructed a family of the house to remain under compulsory home-quarantine. So, the house has been kept under surveillance. Nobody will be allowed to come out of the house.”
“The building was locked down as returnees from Canada and Japan are staying there,” said the official, adding that police officials were put on duty outside the building.
With the 73-year-old man, two persons infected with the virus so far died in the country while there are 24 confirmed cases.
