Move to fill 10,000 vacant posts in public banks

Kazi Zahidul Hasan :The authorities of public banks, in a move, have decided to fill the vacant positions in their institutions with a special emphasis on business development and employee strength, sources said.Public banks are expected to appoint around 10,000 employees and officers within the next six months.The recruitment will be processed through the “Banker Selection Committee,” an independent entity at the behest of the central bank (Bangladesh Bank).Earlier, the respective banks issued their demand letters to the “Banker Selection Committee” in this regard.Vacancies have already been opened in the country’s public sector banks, including Sonali, Janata, Agrani, Rupali, Bangladesh Development Bank Limited (BDBL) and Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB).”Public sector banks undertake recruitment of staff to fill vacancies on entry and mid-level officer positions and the process of appointments has started with the vacant positions being already advertised,” an official of the Banker Selection Committee official told The New Nation on Tuesday.He said, the Committee has sought applications from the eligible candidates and applications will be accepted from candidates at their website. It also announced a common preliminary test for the recruitment of officers in the banks. Applicants who will pass the preliminary test will later sit for a Common Written Examination (CWE) for the recruitment of officers in the banks. Aspirants have to go through an interview process after passing the written test. Later the Banker Selection Committee will select a talent pool on the basis of their interview to fill the vacant posts.All the public banks are now suffering from manpower shortage as a large number of officers and staff went on retirement over the years and their business expansion has further created demands for new recruitment for strengthening their human resource.Sonali Bank will fill a total of 2,276 vacancies in the rank of officers, officers (cash) and senior officers,Janata 2000, Rupali 1,500, BKB 2,200, RAKUB 400 and BDBL 126.Sonali Bank will also recruit another 812 IT personnel and 41 engineers. Sources said, banking jobs are one of the most tending jobs in Bangladesh and large number of aspirants apply and get jobs every year.With the rising economy, the banking sector of Bangladesh also expands and there are large number of banks in the country to control the financial flow and to give financial support to people.
