Move to add 1000 more beds in CMCH

Proposal for construction of another 20-storey building at Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital
has been sent to Dhaka Health Department. The new 1,000-bed
building has been proposed to be
set up at the hospital’s own site in the Gonyachhi Bagan area of Chatteswari Road. CMC Hospital Director
confirmed it.
A letter signed by Shamim Ahsan containing the proposal was sent to the Additional Director General (Planning and Development) of the Health Department on May 16.
Other necessary information including floor layout of a 20 storey building (which floor on which ward) is attached in the proposal.
CMC Hospital Director Brigadier General Mohammad confirmed the information to the media about the letter containing the proposal. Incidentally, the construction of a 20-storey building called CMCH ‘Two’ in the CMC Hospital area has already come a long way.
The decision to build a new infrastructure (20-storey building) in place of the old academic building of CMC in front of the hospital has been finalized. Although initially it was decided to have ten floors as a 500-bed infrastructure. Later, the Department of Health announced plans to build a 20-storey building here as an infrastructure for 1,000 beds instead of 500 beds.
The Department of Health gives instructions for detailed proposals including the floor layout of a 20-storey building (which floor on which ward). After receiving instructions, the CMC Hospital authorities prepared a proposal in this regard and sent it to the Ministry of Health and the Department on March 9.
