Motorbike import tax fraud Customers, govt both cheated

Many dishonest businessmen are importing and selling Yamaha and other popular brand motorcycles violating the government import policy and making import tax fraud to make more profit.
Besides, a security concerned has been raised as the criminals are using such motorcycles to avoid police tracking, sources said.
Through these illegal trading the buyers is being deceived and the government is losing a good amount of tax.
The police have carried separate drives in different establishments in the capital recently and identified 33 motorcycles from four business outlets.
It is known that the ACI Limited is declared as a legitimate organization for import and marketing of Yamaha brand motorcycles. Police found out that the models of different motorcycles were being sold that are out of the existing models of the company. The buyers are being cheated purchasing such motorcycles.
The law enforcers conducted an operation to find out the motorbikes imported in illegal ways and fraud tax. On Saturday, Ramna police conducted drives in 12 showrooms in the city’s Banglamotor,
Eskaton and Mogbazar areas.
Four of Fezer Models and six of FZ Model were identified for tax fraud at Sharif Motors. In the Bike zone, there are 15 models, 3 of FZ Models at Muntahina Motors and 3 of Fezer Models at Nahar Enterprises were found illegal. Earlier in January, police also conducted such operations in the city.
A police official of Ramna Police Station said, criminals usually use illegally imported motorcycles. As a result, it is difficult to identify the criminal activities.
On the other hand, traders who are importing motorbikes in legal way paying more than 150 percent tax on the right price. But the illegal importers cheated the consumers andf the government.
The police are conducting the operation in accordance with the direction of the court. In addition to registering with BRTA, the valid organization of the importing company needs a valid authorization letter. But illegal importers register with the BRTA showing fake documents. As a result, it is a cause of concern for the law enforcers.
