The city’s footpaths are not freed from the clutches of the grabbers, who are illegally trading, even occupying part of the main thoroughfare, at the very busy Motijheel C A, adjacent to Bangladesh Bank.
Parts of Motijheel and Paltan turned into kitchen markets, hindering normal movement on footpaths and plying of transports on roads. The office employees are the main buyers.
Yet, the Dhaka City Corporation and Metropolitan Police are taking no action to clear the areas from the encroachers.
Some sellers said, they have been conducting their business there by paying a daily tolls to various fronts, including law enforcers.
