Staff Reporter :
The mother Mastermind School O-level student on Thursday expressed her doubt about an impartial police investigation of the rape and murder incident of her daughter a week ago.
She said that her family wanted to file a case against the four youths detained from Anwar Khan Modern Hospital after her daughter’s rape and murder, but police only allowed filing a case against lone accused Fardin Iftekhar Dihan.
The mother of 17-year-old schoolgirl alleged that police released the three friends of Fardin without even disclosing their identities to the family of the victim. She made the allegations speaking at a protest rally organised by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad in front of Mastermind school campus at Dhanmondi.
She said that her daughter’s body had marks of torture, but the police did not take those into consideration.
More than one person was involved in the rape and murder, but police allowed them filing the case against only Fardin, she alleged.
She said that she did not believe that her daughter went to the place of occurrence willingly and suspected that she might have been sedated.
Students of Mastermind School and women’s right activists participated in the protest rally in the afternoon.
Speakers in the programme alleged that fake information and doctored images were circulating on social media to socially humiliate the victim family.
The victim’s classmates said that there was an attempt to present the accused as underage in order to avoid justice.
The classmates demanded an end to rapes and political patronage to the rapists.
They demanded an impartial investigation against all the perpetrators.
The police recovered the body of the girl from Anwar Khan Modern Hospital on January 7 and detained Fardin and three of his friends.
Fardin was shown arrested in the murder case on Friday and he later gave confessional statement before the court.
His three friends were released on that night.
Forensic tests at Dhaka Medical College Hospital found evidence of rape and injury marks on the victim’s body.
