The police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested a man and his mother from Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria district for their alleged involvement in a murder which took place about 10 months ago.
The arrestees were identified as Sabbir, 23 and Sheuli Begum, 45.
They were arrested following a drive in a house in Ashuganj on Saturday night for killing Nabi Hossain, 30, a resident of Aganagar village in Bhairab upaizla of Kishoreganj district.
Chattogram Superintendent of Police Nazmul Hasan disclosed the information to media on Sunday.
“ Sabbir hired some contract killers and abducted Nabi from Kishoreganj. They killed him in a car and carried the body all the way to Chattogram and disposed of it in the Patiya area of the port city,” he added.
“When we recovered the body last year , it was totally unrecognisable. However we were able to identify it later through the ‘fingerprint identification and verification system,”said PIB inspector, investigation officer of the case, Monir Hossain.
After receiving the body to the Nabi Hossain, Kabir Hossain, younger brother of the victim, filed a case with Patiya Police station against Sabbir and Sheuli who were on the runbefore being caught on Sunday.
An extramarital affair developed between Sheuli and Nabi and later she divorced her Saudi-expatriate husband and married Nabi, said the investigation officer.
This enraged her son Sabbir and he planned to kill him as revenge .
According to the plan, he hired three killers-Tushar, Sumon and Ashiq-to execute his plan.
Following a failed abduction attempt on October 15 they successfully abducted the victim the next day and later strangled him to death in a car in Cumilla before dumping the body at a jungle in Patiya of Chattagram.
According to the investigative officer of the case, Sabbir paid Tk 60,000 ( 15,000 in advance) to Sumon as part of their contract.
