Mosharraf lays foundation of ‘Ministers Apartment’

The government has been undertaking a number of programmes to construct more multi-storied buildings for the government officers and employees in the city to reduce their residential problems to a significant level.
“Out of nearly 1.50 lakh government officers and employees residing in the capital, only eight percent have been enjoying residential facility due to want of government quarters,” said Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain here on Wednesday.
The minister said the government, considering the problems, has been undertaking programmes to construct more multi-storied buildings in the city to provide housing facility for at least 40 percent government officers and employees by 2018.
The minister made the remarks while inaugurating the construction works of a six-storied apartment building for the ministers in the city’s Baily Road area.
The building named “Ministers’ Apartment” would be constructed at an estimated cost of Taka 47.74 crore in two years. The building would have apartments for 10 ministers, each being 2,248 square feet.
Housing and Public Works Secretary Md. Shahidullah Khandakar, Chief Engineer of Public Works Department Md. Hafizur Rahman Munshi and senior officials of the ministry, among others, were present on the occasion.
