Staff Reporter :
Expressing deep concern about the landing of mortar shells inside Bangladesh territory by Myanmar during their internal conflicts, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming on Monday said that he would inform Beijing about the issue.
He also said that the violation of international border rules by the Myanmar junta government during their internal conflicts was ‘very unfortunate.’
He said this to the journalists after holding talks with Acting Foreign Secretary Rear Admiral (Retd) Md Khurshed Alam in the Foreign Ministry.
The Chinese envoy said that both sides discussed a number of bilateral issues including early repatriation of the Rohingya people to their homeland. In reply to a query about the conflicts inside Myanmar along the Bangladesh border, the Envoy said that the issue came to the discussion table and it was ‘very unfortunate.’
Over the last one month, Myanmar violated the airspace and the mortar shells and bullets landed inside Bangladesh territory during the conflicts between Myanmar army and ARSA.
Following such incidents, Bangladesh summoned the Myanmar Ambassador to Dhaka four times with strong protest notes, saying not to repeat such incidents.
The Myanmar Envoy tried to explain that the mortar shells were not fired by the Myanmar army, rather it was done by the Arakan army.
The Bangladesh side did not accept such narration and said that it was their internal issue and they have to bear the responsibility.
Even last week Bangladesh invited the envoys of different countries to tell the position of Bangladesh and sought their cooperation to create pressure on Myanmar to refrain from such violation and to take back the Rohingyas.
Following Bangladesh’s concern, the diplomats during the meeting assured Bangladesh that they would convey the message of Bangladesh to their capitals and they would stand with Bangladesh if the issue was raised at the United Nations.
Meanwhile, China has been playing a major role in the tripartite mechanism among Bangladesh, Myanmar and China to find a solution to the Rohingya issue.
Bangladesh has been hosting over 1.1 million Rohingyas since the exodus in 2017.
