In a bid to combat with novel coronavirus, the government is planning to install 10 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds with ventilation facilities in every divisional city.
The facility of 34 ICU beds is ready for use at Bangladesh Kuwait Moitree Hospital and Sheikh Rasel Gastro Liver Institute and Hospital in Dhaka.
Besides, three private hospitals in the capital have 11 ICU beds.
Kurmitola General Hospital has 22 more ICU beds which will be used for coronavirus infected patients only within one or two days.
The officials from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed it.
Another 13 ICU beds of United Hospital in Munshiganj also will be used for COVID-19 patients, the officials said preferring anonymity.
A big makeshift isolation center may be created at Biswa Ijtema Maidan, Tongi to serve suspected patients of COVID-19.
One of them said, “The government is planning to install 24 ICU beds at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. It is also trying to ensure 10 ICU beds at Mugda Medical College and Hospital and eight in Mitford Hospital.”
The DGHS authorities have selected 20 ICU beds in Mymensingh for COVID-19 patients, while six more ICU beds are planned for SK Hospital.
On the other hand, sources from the DGHS said around 1500 beds for treating COVID-19 patients could be installed at the proposed makeshift emergency hospital by the Bashundhara International Convention Center.
The government also mulls options to create a makeshift hospital at the newly built Mohakhali Kitchen Market building in the capital.
