Month- long mourning of Ctg AL begins

The Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies chalked out a month long programmes in observance of the National Mourning Day and the 41st martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from August 2.
The observance of the mourning began through candle light vigils at the city’s Awami League office at Darul Fazal Market at zero hours, last night.
The city and district unit leaders of AL placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at AL Darul Fazal market office and Andarkillah office respectively in the morning followed by a discussion meetin highlighting significance of the day.
Meanwhile, leaders and activists of different associate bodies of Awami League – Jubo League and Chhatra League also placed wreaths at the portrait of the Father of the Nation.
The month long observance of the national mourning will continue through various programmes including feeding of the destitute and discussion meeting on Bangabandhu in different wards of city corporation, mourning rally, Mezban, till September 01 in the city and district of Chittagong.
Besides, different political parties, socio-cultural-professional bodies have also drawn up elaborate programmes to mark the Month of Mourning.
Chittagong Awami League will organize a “Chittagonian traditional Mezban” at Tungipara of Gopalgonj district on the occasion of the 41st martyrdom of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15.
Former Chittagong City Mayor and President of Chittagong City Awami League (AL) A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury will organize the Mezban for 30 thousand people.
Advocate Iftaker Saimul, law affairs secretary of city AL said a team of city unit Awami league led by Mohiuddin Chowdhury will place floral wreaths at the Mazar of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara on August 14 next.
Another discussion meeting and Mezban wil be held at Rima convention center on Audust 15 next. City AL General Secretary and city Mayor A J M Nasir Uddin, will attend the function as chief guest.
On August 1975, some disgruntled army officers killed Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 16 members of his family and close relations in a military putsch.
