BSS, Dhaka :
The government will run a month-long countdown festival across the country from March 1 to celebrate the launching of country’s first communication satellite Bangabandhu-I.
The plan has been taken to make the remarkable day memorable as the country will join the satellite owners’ club as the 57th member through the launching.
“The countdown festival will be held for the auspicious event of having own satellite into the orbit to make the day more special,” State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim told BSS on Thursday.
Terming the day as a big milestone for the nation, she said it’s a great achievement as Bangladesh is going to win the space that might be joyous for every citizen.
Replying to a query about the date of launching, the state minister said: “We will reveal it after getting final confirmation from the SpaceX.”
She said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would cut the ribbon of launching of the satellite from capital’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC). Centering the event, the BICC auditorium will be decorated in the shape of SpaceX.
Posts and telecommunications division (PTD) as part of the programme will set up billboard, giant screen and countdown board in upazila level, divisional cities and also in capital Dhaka to inform the people about the final moment.
“We will telecast the launching moment live on all screen so each people of the country can witness the historical moment,” revealed Tarana.
She said they have planned to run programme in both day and night in accordance with the timing of Florida. “All the people across the country will release balloons in day while fireworks show will be demonstrated at night.”
Besides, the PTD will open an event page on facebook and special cell with specific numbers. “We will post segmented videos of different stages of satellite on the facebook page while the special cell will reply the queries of technical aspects of satellite,” said Tarana.
In addition, she said: “We will also develop an opportunity for the people so they can express their opinion and reactions live on the auspicious day.”
But, all the screens and digital boards will be turned into black to recall the brutality of the black night (March 25) by the Pakistani occupational forces, added the state minister.
Manufacture of the country’s first satellite Bangabandhu-1 has been completed and it is now waiting for launch. The satellite will be launched from the SpaceX Falcon 9 launching vehicle from the Cape Canaveral launching pad in Florida of the United States.
On November 11, 2015 Bangladesh struck a Taka 1,951 crore deal with Thales Alenia Space to implement the project.
Bangladesh will launch the satellite in the orbital slot on 119.1 degree east longitude that will have a capacity of 40 transponders-one transponder is equivalent to 36 MHz.
Bangladesh bought the orbital slot from Intersputnik, a Russian satellite company, for US$ 28 million in early 2015.
