Monsoon rain started anew from Thursday night in Chittagong and adjoining districts, including Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachari. A gust of wind also damaged houses at several areas in Chittagong on Friday morning leaving one dead and several injured.
The maximum low-lying areas of the port city went under knee-deep water during the daylong rain on Friday. The sea of Bay of Bengal was rough and the high tide in Bay also intensified the submersing the low lying areas.
The city dwellers in the low-lying areas of Chittagong suffered indescribably due to the water-logging. In some places too, water entered houses causing immense sufferings to the resi dents.
According to Patenga met office Chittagong experienced a heavy rainfall on Thursday and Friday. As a result, drains and canals of the city and all the rivers of the district were
full to the brim of rainwater causing inundation in low-lying areas through overflowing.
