Selling of pure drinking water is one of the main sources of income of Mongla Sea Port authorities. This pure drinking water is sold to both foreign and local mercantile ships arrive at the port. Besides this, the water is also sold to the local different industries situated at the outskirts of the Port area. Price of the each metric tone water is 10 US dollars in the international rate. It is learnt from the harbour source of the Port that on January 23 last (2021) some 70 metric tones water and on January 22 some 150 metric tones water were sold respectively to Panama national flag carrying ship MV PLG Sofia and Thailand national flag carrying ship MV Sena-7.
The Port authorities earned a sum of Tk.2 lakh 17 thousand 50 from the sell proceed of the pure drinking water. It is also learnt from the harbouir department that 2 ships of the Port authorities named MV Trisna and MV Ruhi are engaged in supplying the pure drinking water to the mercantile ships arrived at the port. This pure drinking water is carried by those two ships (of the Port) from its own (pure drinking) water plant situated at Foila under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district to Mongla Port.
Md. Mohammadulla, Ship Movement section of harbour department of Mongla Port disclosed, in the fiscal year of 2019-20 some 20 thousand 3 hundred 98 metric tomes of pure drinking water were supplied to 148 mercantile (commercial) ships and the Port earned a sum of Tk.99 lakh 19 thousand 4 hundred 95 from the sell proceed of the water. Shariful Islam, an official of the Finance department of the port told the newsmen, the Port earned a sum of Tk. 2 crores 71 lakh 46 thousand 3 hundred 83 after selling pure drinking water to mercantile ships arrived at the port and local industries, adjacent to the port in the last fiscal year.
